Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and resin to fusing the layers of wax. Encaustic medium consists of natural beeswax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap). The encaustic process refers to techniques that use beeswax and damar resin as a medium to create paintings or mixed media photography, giving the image an intriguing surface and density. Tips: The wax and resin will not melt unless exposed to temperatures over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. They are also sensitive to freezing cold temperatures. Using a Dutch oven, cover the meaty soup bones with water and simmer 2 hours. Cut off meat and scoop out marrow, save. Discard bones and cartilage. Add meat and marrow back to the broth.
