Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and resin to fusing the layers of wax. Encaustic medium consists of natural beeswax and dammar resin (crystallized tree sap). The encaustic process refers to techniques that use beeswax and damar resin as a medium to create paintings or mixed media photography, giving the image an intriguing surface and density. Tips: The wax and resin will not melt unless exposed to temperatures over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. They are also sensitive to freezing cold temperatures.
