Brandy infused with Yarrow leaves and flowers, chamomile flowers, fennel seed and orange peel, either grown here on the farm or sourced organically.

Feel a cold coming on? This elixir can help shorten the duration with elderberries, ginger, calendula, rose hips, orange peel and mullein (lung tonic). Brandy is the base for extraction and honey is added, both which are calming and soothing to irritated tissues of the respiratory system. Since this contains honey, it is not for use in children under the age of one year old. For adults, we use 1-2 dropper full up to 3 times a day at the onset of cold or flu. Some of the ingredients like calendula, elderberry, ginger and mullein are grown on our farm. We enjoy making small batch remedies in our certified kitchen on the farm.

I never realized how many inch worms live in the flowers of the tropical Albizia, or more well known as Mimosa, flowers. Collected and (worms removed to a more appropriate place) infused in organic cane alcohol, shaken often and decanted after 8 weeks, it is now ready for your herbal collection. Known as the Happy Herb, you can imagine that this would be a handy extract to have on hand. It’s been helpful in cases of panic, insomnia, times of distress and may be helpful to PTSD conditions. Contact your physician, especially if pregnant, as I am a grower and maker, and haven’t been to medical school! But I hear it’s generally considered to be safe.

Alcohol free extract of Motherwort ~ harvested and extracted fresh while flowering. Leonurus cardiaca is a perennial plant we grow (somewhat prolifically) which is favored by the bees as well as those seeking herbal assistance with digestion (it is a bitter plant), nervousness or anxiety (it is a nervine), heart issues (emotional or physical, decreasing palpitations from anxiousness or hormonal shifts), and menopause issues (it is a cooling herb). Not recommended for use during pregnancy but is considered safe during breastfeeding.

When that first feeling of illness pops up, be ready with some immune support! This recipe has worked for our family for a few years. Whether it starts with a slight sore throat or cough, you know when your body needs a boost. Elderberries are native as well as cultivated at our farm; we also grow ginger every year and, well, couldn't get rid or the peppermint if we tried! All combine with organically sourced Cinnamon, Licorice root and Star Anise in an organic alcohol. I call it Lung Aid! Mullein in a native plant traditionally used (leaf) as a lung tonic. Elecampane is a biennial plant in the aster family; the root is useful as an expectorant, anti-tussive and antimicrobial. Together they team up as a great go to during cold and flu season. Both are grown on our farm, the mullein gets to choose where it grows. Organic cane alcohol is used for extraction.

This is a great addition or beginning to your herbal First Aid Kit. Our own version of Jethro Kloss' liniment is used topically for pain, bruising, wound cleansing, boils and other skin eruptions. We used Echinacea root (antibacterial), Oregon Grape root (for its disinfectant and antimicrobial properties), Myrrh (an ages old skin healing plant), Cayenne for its warming and catalyst properties, in 70% alcohol.

Gift of the Bees Extract is made in our certified farm kitchen. Made from our hive's Propolis ~ cleaned and extracted, Blended with our wildflower honey infused with sage and thyme. Propolis is a very sticky substance the bees make from tree and plant resins, adding their own wax. The bees use it to protect the health of the colony, to protect their hive from disease, including the effects of intruders (mice and other critters have been found in hives, coated with propolis to protect the bees from disease). The compounds in propolis provide immune defense and antioxidant properties. Studies are showing propolis as a potential therapeutic and preventive agent, as an antimicrobial, wound healer, cardio-protector and optimizer of neural function (ncbi.nim.nih.gov "Evidence on the Health Benefits of Supplemental Propolis). Our intention in making this product is to provide alternative options for those who may not be able or choose not to take prescription or over the counter drugs.
