Smooth sumac (Rhus glabra) is the only tree/shrub which can be found in all of the 48 contiguous states. This is an important bee plant which usually is in bloom around June. Smooth sumac is not poisonous. When the honey is fresh there is a slight bitter note at the finish. However, the bitterness disappears a short time after bottling.
