Jacqueline's Cabbage With Juniper Berries

I buy Juniper berries online, but this year I’ll try some I know to be growing on a tree in Clarkesville. When ripe, they are dark purple and about the size of small pearls.I think it’s best to pick them after the first frost.You can dry them and keep them in a glass jar. They last quite a while.

Serves: About 6-8 servings.
Vegetarian!

Ingredients
3 Tblsp butter or olive oil
1 medium Chopped onion
1-2 cloves crushed garlic
12-14 Juniper berries crushed
1/2 cup water or stock
1 medium head of cabbage, sliced
to taste salt and pepper

Step by Step Instructions
  1. Heat butter or oil in a large pot with a tight fitting lid.
  2. Add onion, garlic and Juniper berries. Stir fry untill onion is translucent.Add cabbage and stir to mix well.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of water and cover with lid. Reduce heat. Cook till tender stirring occasionally.I like mine a bit tender-crisp, but you can cook it to suit yourself.
  4. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Enjoy!
