Fourth-generation cattleman, Dennis Barron, originally from Alpharetta, Georgia established Indian Creek Angus in 1995 in Franklin County, Georgia. Dennis has been in the cattle business his whole life and has been raising certified Grass Fed Beef for almost Ten years now. Denny Barron, Dennis’s oldest son joined the company in 2010. He has worked on cattle and horse farms his whole life and he oversees the farm’s maintenance, construction, and security. Laura Barron McCook and her husband Donnie McCook, have joined the family business and are handling the grass-fed beef company for the farm.

At Indian Creek, we believe that cattle should be raised humanely, in a natural and low-stress environment. Our cattle are given no growth hormones or steroids; they are not fed antibiotics and they are not fattened on grain. Indian Creek Angus cattle are raised on the rich grasses of Northeast Georgia, and with pesticide-free hay from our farm to supplement during the winter. Our herd has grown from an original registered Angus herd to include other excellent beef breeds like Hereford and Charolais. In addition, we have incorporated the Murray Grey breed from Australia through our first Murray Grey bull Kyle, and our second one, Vern, purchased from Vernon Hochstetler, an Amish grass-fed beef producer in Indiana. Murray Grey is considered one of the best breeds to convert grass to beef. The breed originated from an Angus and Shorthorn parent and the coats are grey. Kyle and Vern have sired well over 100 calves on our farm and they are all various shades of their beautiful grey.

Our beef is dry-aged for 14-21 days. Dry-aging makes the meat much more flavorful and tender, but the beef also loses weight during the aging process. For that reason, dry-aging is not generally used in commercial beef production. Only top-tier steak houses age their beef. Dry-aging also requires more work on
the part of the processor. The processor is the best judge of how long the beef can age for optimum flavor and tenderness, and every beef will be different because of size, age, and climactic factors. Our beef is available at the farm, in Cumming, and through various markets throughout the North Georgia area.

We invite you to visit our 320-acre farm, see the green pastures where our cattle graze, and learn of the benefits of 100% grass-fed beef. We’re only an hour or so from Atlanta, Cumming, and Alpharetta, Georgia, and only about 40 minutes from the Athens, Georgia, and Lawrenceville, Georgia areas. Our goal is to provide top quality beef to you and your family and continue to improve the land and cattle for our next generation of family and customers.
